Sony announces PS4 launch date, Vita price drop, more

Exciting news from the 2013 Gamescom Sony conference

SonyGamescom2013.jpg.pagespeed.ce.nUa0N0xjGISony’s press event at European game conference Gamescom has finished up for 2013 and out of it comes a slew of exciting news.

The biggest news coming out of the day is that the PlayStation 4, Sony’s newest addition to the PlayStation family, will launch in North America on Nov. 15 and in Europe on Nov. 29. Sony CEO Andrew House added that the system has already seen over one million pre-orders worldwide.

In addition, Sony announced a ton of new indie games including the critically acclaimed Minecraft, which will come to PS4 during its launch window. The hugely popular game will be coming to Vita and PS3 as well.

Upcoming sequel to the ever-popular racing simulation series, PlayStation 3 exclusive Gran Turismo 6 will launch on Dec. 6.

The PlayStation Vita got a price drop announcement and will now cost $199 in North America. The price of memory cards will also decrease, though Sony didn’t specify the new prices.

As for games announced for the PS4 and other PlayStation platforms, Sony announced a reimagined Shadow of the Beast, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture from thechineseroom, Rime from Deadlight creator Tequila Works, and Hotline Miami 2, among others. Sony says these titles will all be exclusive to PlayStation platforms upon launch.

Last but not least, a new free-to-play Little Big Planet title will make its way to PlayStation 3, Polytron’s Fez is coming to PlayStation platforms, Music Unlimited will be enhanced (including being able to use it during gameplay) on PS4, and Borderlands 2 will make its way to PS Vita.
