Microsoft adds 10 new backward compatible games, offers Witcher 2 free

The company is also changing how backward compatible games will be released in the future

Microsoft announced today, via the Major Nelson blog, that 10 new backward compatible Xbox 360 games are now available on Xbox one.

In addition, the company is offering CD Projekt Red’s Witcher 2 for free through February 5 in certain regions, including the US. This is in addition to January’s Games with Gold.

Currently, Microsoft has been adding a host of games once a month to the list of backward compatible titles, but Major Nelson says in the future, games will become available as they are approved, so players will see new games throughout the month.

“We’re also going to start releasing titles as they become available rather than a set monthly launch date,” Larry Hryb a.k.a. Xbox Live’s Major Nelson stated on his blog post. “What this means for you is that you won’t have to wait to find out the latest titles; we’ll release whatever is available, when they’re available, once each title has received the engineering and publisher stamp of approval.”

We’ve listed the newly available titles on our dedicated Xbox Backward Compatible games page as well as below. What will you be playing (or replaying) this month?

Added January 21, 2016

Aegis Wing
Age of Booty
Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad
Sam & Max Save the World
Small Arms
Soul Calibur
Space Giraffe
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
