Miitomo hits mobile devices in March and it looks a lot like Tomodachi Life

According to Nintendo officials via a shareholder meeting announcement, the company will be launching a new rewards program in place of the recently shutdown Club Nintendo called My Nintendo. The service will launch in March and will coincide with the release of Nintendo’s first mobile game, Miitomo.

My Nintendo — which replaces Club Nintendo’s coin system with a two-tier setup that will feature gold and platinum points — will launch globally in March, and everyone who already had a Club Nintendo account will automatically be a member of the new rewards service, which will work across Wii U, 3DS, PC and Nintendo’s upcoming NX.

Nintendo also detailed its new mobile app, Miitomo. The app will be available for iOS and Android devices and will be free-to-play. The app will also feature microtransactions for add-ons.

Nintendo describes the app as a social networking app that will allow users to interact with one another in a light-hearted and playful manner.

“Using Mii characters, users will be able to interact with their friends in an entirely new way to spark fun and interesting conversations such as ‘what song has been stuck in your head lately?’, ‘do you believe in aliens?’, or even ‘if you saw a nose hair sticking out of your friend’s nose, what would you do?'” stated a Nintendo press release on the new app. “By answering questions in Miitomo, users will be able to discover surprising information and secrets about their friends, as well as share their experiences with others easily by taking and sharing photos featuring their Mii using the Miifoto feature.”

For those of you who are excited for the new app, you can pre-register for it starting February 17 using a Nintendo Network ID, social media account or your email address. Upon registering, users will gain access to news and information leading up to the official launch as well as an exclusive bonus reward for My Nintendo when that service launches.

Miitomo is the first in a series of apps and games for mobile from Nintendo. The company says the next app will feature a big Nintendo gaming star, most likely Mario.
