A new auto runner game was announced by Nintendo today at Apple’s iPhone 7 reveal event
Apple revealed its iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus today at a press conference, but that’s not all that was revealed at the event.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, took the stage to announce Super Mario Run. Like other auto runner games, players will tap the screen to make Mario jump, collect coins and grab powerups all while trying to get to the flagpole at the end of each level as quickly as possible.
In addition to the run mode, there is a battle mode where players compete against friends or online foes on a level with no flagpole to see who can get more coins in the time limit. The final mode in the game, detailed on its Apple app store listing, will allow players to create their own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected in the other two game modes.
The game will work on a one-time purchase model with no microtransactions, but no price was announced. Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, hinted that the game will be coming to other platforms by saying it’s coming to iOS first.
It was also revealed that Nintendo stickers will be a part of the iOS 10 iMessage feature, which is coming this month. Super Mario Run is slated to be released this holiday season.
