AJ Styles will grace the cover of the new game and he’s issued a challenge to players
WWE and 2K Sports have revealed the cover superstar for WWE 2K19 and it is the “phenomenal” WWE Champion and Smackdown superstar AJ Styles.
The champ, who retained his title in a Last Man Standing match against Shinsuke Nakamura at Sunday’s Money in the Bank event, revealed himself as the cover star in a live stream this morning. He also issued a $1 million challenge to WWE game fans. Styles said a fan would need to win a contest and then beat him in a match in order to win a chance to earn $1 million.
The “WWE 2K19 Million Dollar Challenge” will ask fans to beat a new unannounced mode and then share a video saying why they think they can beat Styles in the game. Winners will then go on to face other semifinalists with the winner squaring off with AJ Styles to fight for the money.
Keep in mind that the contest is limited to PS4 and Xbox One. You can view the official rules here.
The game will release on PS4, Xbox One and, for the first time in the series, on the same day for PC via Steam. In the past few years, 2K has released the game on PC much later than the console versions.
It also appears that the Nintendo Switch version has been dropped this year after multiple frame rate and performance issues with WWE 2K18, but it’s possible a Switch version will be announced at a later date.
The game hits stores on Oct. 9, 2018. It will be available in standard and deluxe editions with the deluxe including the season pass. The deluxe edition and yet-to-be-announced collector’s editions will be available four days early on Oct. 5, 2018, 2K said.
