Sony announces PlayStation Classic mini console, includes 20 games

The plug-and-play console comes complete with controllers and the classic PlayStation design

42964774390_ce5d11c700_bWhen the NES and SNES Classic consoles were released, it lead everyone to speculate that everything from an N64 Classic to a PC mini would be coming. And while some of those consoles are indeed coming soon, a lot of it was just eager fans spreading fantasies online.

But now, Sony has unveiled the PlayStation Classic and it’ll include 20 “fan-favorite” games, Sony said. Below is the official description of the mini console, which will also include two classic controllers, an HDMI cable and the classic PlayStation design.

As written by Sony via GameStop’s product page:

PlayStation®Classic is the perfect console for retro-loving fans – and for a new generation wanting to experience the dawn of PlayStation for the first time.

  • PlayStation® Classic comes with 20 pre-loaded games including, Final Fantasy Vll, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms.
  • This mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation.
  • Includes two wired controllers, a virtual memory card and an HDMI cable.

The system, which is 45 percent smaller than the original PlayStation console, launches on Dec. 3, 2018 and retails at $99.99 in the U.S. The 20 games have not been announced yet beyond Wild Arms, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, Jumping Flash and Final Fantasy VII. The other 15 titles should be released soon as the system’s release isn’t too far off.
